My friend, Brenda Ochieng, makes some incredible jewlery. She and her husband began the Goldmines Foundation (http://www.goldminesfoundation.org/) just this year and are using this as an avenue to empower the youth of Kibera through the arts! This is a side hobby and hidden talent of Brenda’s, to make beautiful jewlery, and so I wanted to display it and promote it.
Much of her jewlery is made using ceramic beads, which are made by the mentally disabled in Nairobi and by a group of single mothers at a shop called Kazuri beads. Brenda buys the artist’s beads and then makes the jewlery herself! The necklaces are $15.00 and the bracelet sets are around $20.00. If you want custom colors this can be done! She also just started making the glass bead earings, and is now working on necklaces and bracelets to match!
