This year I will be spending the big American eating holiday in Bukavu, Democratic Republic of Congo!
From November 18th-25th a therapeutic arts team from BuildaBridge International will be providing therapeutic art sessions for women who have experienced sexual violence and training for local social workers. Currently 150 women are in a program at Panzi Hospital sponsored by an organization called Women in War Zones. The women’s ages range from 15-80. We will offer 3 classes for 4 days (I will teach mural painting, while photography, and dance are also be offered). Then the staff who work closely with the women will be trained in how to use art therapy with the women in order for them to process and overcome the trauma they have been through.
Congo right now is in a war zone and not such a stable country. Please pray that our ministry and services would reach these women in a way that embodies hope and begins a healing process. Also for safety during the time we are there.
